A positive Golden Eagles run under ex-Highlanders coach Mark Mathe was brought to an end on Wednesday by former Castle Lager Premier Soccer League [CLPSL] boys Harare City FC.

Unbeaten in six games, Mathe lost 1-0 to the Sunshine Boys at Motor Action Sports Club in front of a decent crowd.

Mathe has been in charge of Eagles in their last six games after taking over the reigns from former Orlando Pirates striker Gilbert Mushangazhike in May.

Since his elevation to the helm, Mathe who was Mushangazhike’s assistant, posted four wins and two draws.

Mathe’s wins were against Chinhoyi Stars (2-1), Concession United (0-5), Shamva (1-0) and Karoi (1-0).

His draws were versus MWOS (1-1) and Ngezi Platinum Stars U19s (0-0).

Harare City’s Muboyi’s solitary strike in the first half handed Mathe his first defeat for Gondo Harishaye.

Speaking after the defeat, the ex-Caps United coach said: “Our major setback is that we started slowly off the blocks, normally we start fast off the blocks putting the opponents under pressure.

“Today we were a bit timid, I’m not happy with the way we played also our usual movement going forward.”

Mathe believes his charges could have done better to defend the goal whose build up was from a set piece.

Despite the defeat, he was delighted with his charges’ second half reaction.

He is also hoping to return to winning ways when Eagles host Come Again FC at Ellis Robins this Sunday.
