FORMER Highlanders Vice Captain Nqobizitha Masuku will be one of only three Zimbabweans playing in the African Safari when CAF’s continental showpiece kicks off.

Masuku claimed a spot in CAF’s Champions League after Jwaneng Galaxy, his Botswana side, won the Be Mobile Premier League last month.
The 29-year-old dumped Bosso for Jwaneng in the January transfer window, telling fans he had to secure enough finances for his family.
His contributions to the squad have been immeasurable despite an earlier knock.
Masuku joins teammate Daniel Msendami and Orlando Pirates forward Terrence Dzvukamanja who will play in the Confederation Cup, having won South Africa’s Nedbank Cup.
Dzvukamanja’s last gasp goal ensured a place for him and The Sea Robbers.
The three will represent Zimbabwe on the continent at a time the country’s isolation continues following a blanket CAF and FIFA ban on footballing matters.
FC Platinum who won the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League last season and Bulawayo Chiefs who won Zimbabwe’s premier knockout tournament, the Chibuku Super Cup, will not be participating as a result.
To his benefit, Mapeza believes his squad is not yet ready for the gruelling cross continent competition.
“It’s sad for our football, but l have to be honest, as much as we want to compete in the CAF Champions League, we are still lagging behind,” said Mapeza.
It will be Masuku, Bosso’s former General, Msendami and Dzvukamanja the ex-Ngezi Platinum forward who will be out to claim it for themselves.
