Since his arrival in Zimbabwe in June 2022, Premier Soccer League (PSL) log leaders Highlanders’ coach, Baltermar Brito, is arguably a man on a mission.

The Brazilian born Portuguese gaffer is making the hard to please Bulawayo giants’ fans start to believe again.

Sixteen games into the 2023 campaign, his charges are yet to taste defeat and are leading the pack with 34 points.

Bosso who last won their league title in 2006 under Methembe Ndlovu, are four points ahead of second placed Ngezi Platinum Stars, their next opponents.

The two clubs will headline match day 17 fixtures in a top of the table clash scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro.

Amahlolanyama maintained top spot after beating Manica Diamonds 1-0 on Sunday at Barbourfields Stadium.

A goal in the 27th minute by potential Soccer Star of the Year Peter Muduhwa sealed the victory for Highlanders.

Brito was a happy man after the match but challenged his employers to grow their brand.

He bemoaned lack of analysts and footage of past games.

Analysts and videos are a vital cog in modern day football because they help coaches prepare for their next assignments.

“We came into the game without any knowledge of the opponent. The only advantage was we have played this coach before and had an idea of how he structures his team. We don’t have analysts, we don’t have videos.

“How do you prepare for a match without these things? We care and try to be professional.

“The day we relax and are happy will be the day Highlanders start to grow. We come from a culture that is more about growth.

“We are always unhappy because this is our life. I came here (in Zimbabwe) I don’t see my son in nine months, it’s not easy,” Brito told journalists.

“If we are here to just sit and drink some Zambezi then we rather stay at home,” said Brito.

The Portuguese expatriate replaced Mandla ‘Lulu’ Mpofu who was sacked after a streak of poor results.
