The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has officially announced the detention of twelve individuals in relation to the violence that took place at Barbourfields (BF) Stadium on Sunday.

The public violence occurred during a match between old rivals Dynamos and Highlanders in a Week 22 fixture which ended prematurely in the 39th minute.

Bosso fans invaded the pitch to protest against referee Allen Bhasvi’s decision at a time DeMbare were leading 2-0 courtesy of goals by Keith Madera and Frank Makarati.

The behaviour resulted in the violence which saw eight people including four police officers injured, fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

In a statement released on Tuesday, ZRP confirmed the arrest of 12 suspects in connection with the public violence.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirms that 12 suspects have been arrested in connection with the public violence which occurred at Barbourfields Stadium on 10th September 2023,” reads the statement.

According to the statement, six of those detained were apprehended for public violence while four others were charged with nuisance.

Moreover, two are currently in custody for contravening the Firearms Act.

The ZRP also revealed Investigations are still ongoing into this matter.
